64-bit XP is an incompatible, unstable, slow, piece of shit.
I used it for many months before I finally bought another hard drive back up my data and re-install.

The main reason most people would want 64-bit XP and not vista is because of games. However, game compatibility under 64-bit XP is BAD. None of the HL1 stuff would run. HL2 was hit or miss. Other games wouldn't install but would just crash my system. Booting up took about 10 min, shutdown was even worse.

The other 64-bit XP issues is drivers. I was luckily enough to have driver support, but that too is hit and miss.

After dealing with that for several months, I switched to 64-bit Vista. FLAWLESS. I just installed the 64-bit Windows 7 RC and it too works very well (Haven't gamed with it much yet though).

If your system is strong enough for a 64-bit OS, go with Vista (or the 7 RC).

Note that I'm running on very good hardware. If you have a weak system, Vista might not run as well. Still, DON'T TOUCH 64-Bit XP!!!!!!!

I would go 64-bit vista or wait for Windows 7.

If you're risky, go with the RC (works great!)

If anyone is going to use 64bit, I cannot stress enough that Windows 7 is the best way to go. Don't even bother using Windows xp 64bit because its so slow and incompatible with weird driver issues. Windows Vista is like driving a ferrari with a handbrake. Windows 7 would definitely be the O/S of choice for windows users.
