You will need to purchase a new motherboard, As you are wanting to go from an AMD proc. to an Intel proc. I have the e8400 which by default is a 3ghz processor. I have overclocked it to a 3.4ghz very easily and with very little heat gain. The e8600 is nothing more than the e8400 slightly overclocked they are the same processor practically. If you wish to save a little bit of money go with the e8400 and a good mbo. Imo I would also purchase the EVGA 750i FTW edition as it was built specifically around the e8400 processor and has tons of configurable options for overclocking and such. Its also a great price and a decent board with SLI support. Again thats just my opinion, but to answer your question originally you will need to purchase a new motherboard. Gprahics card and ram will be fine those can remain the same until you have money to upgrade them.

No its a known fact. Because you have an AMD processor you can only support AMD processors. Intel chipset boards only support intel processors. It's like a one or the other kind of thing. I have intel which means I cannot have an AMD processor on my motherboard. For you here is a quick way to tell if your motherboard will support a CPU. The socket type is what determines this. Above you wrote that the e8600 is an LGA 775 socket this means you can purchase any motherboard that is an LGA 775 socket board. Your AMD processor is a AM2 socket see how they are not the same. Just keep that in mind when shopping for CPU's and Processors, The socket type of the CPU must match that of the motherboard.

assmunk Wrote:for the price why not get a phenom II triple core? you would still need to get a new mobo though (at least a socket am2+ but am3 would be best for it). and if you go with am3 socket board you have to get ddr3 ram. that video card of yours is it agp or pci-e? you might need to get that replased too
his board might not be AM2+

Realchamp as a computer tech I would advise u to get a new CPU/MOBO/Video Card and RAM because your computer sounds so outdated that it would not be cost effective to upgrade just some parts
If u want PM me and I can help u pick out parts, u just have to let me know budget and wehere to buy from (I don't know any sites for tech parts in Denmark)

Well, If you want a new processor without any other new parts just purchase a faster dual core. Or open your case take a peek around for the model number on the motherboard (usually large bold lettering in the middle or the edge of the baord) and tell us so we can see what kind of processor and chipset you can use.

Is there any AMD processor there's better than my currently one? I bet there are. But is there one I can use without having to chance something?
