Verizon Router Help? :D
#1
Exclamation
Router: MI424WR Verizon Fios

Problem: Wireless

Speed: 20MB/s down 5MB/s up

_________________________

When I had my previous internet service I had excellent wireless speed... It was around 20MB/s down and 2MB/s up. But I didn't like them and found a cheaper deal with verizon...
I used it a different router with my previous internet company..

So now... I have this Verizon router... But if I use wireless from the same distance it was last time... The signal is pure crap.

Even if I put the router next to my computer..

It's not my wireless card because I tested it on my other computers too. That had the same speed before...

But if I plug it in directly... The speed is perfect, same with the other computers...

I don't get it...

Why is it being crappy wirelessly???

EDIT:

Do you need anymore info!?!

Wireless is shit to be honest.

... I gotta admit, I run on wireless too.

My router is an old version and my retriever is pretty new.

I have full signal and I'm about 10 feets away and behind a wall.

It's might your new router's signal there's bad.

You lose several KBit/s with wireless. (If not MBit/s)

I have 2 Access points, one is for all my misalliances wireless gadgets the other is for a wireless link to the other side of the house. If you have it setup properly and are willing to sped money then you can get a decent router. 2 of mine are WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware and their is little or no speed drop.

Yeah... Is there any way to fix the signal?

It's really crappy at wireless.. and it has an antenna

My old one didn't have one... BUT HEY IT WAS CISCO XD

Anyway to make it transmit better? Or add another router to it so that I can use my cisco one instead?!

You can't make it better.

It requires a new modem/router!

Can I use a different router?
It's a router + modem... but could I use another router?

O_o

I've been wondering...
Since they gave me this router with crappy signal...
What should I do?

Yes, if it has a modem built in, go buy a Dlink or Linksys router to connect to it. It should be better then the cheap Verizon stuff.

Wait Wait, I have had FiOS since the getgo so let me offer an explanation b4 u go dumping money or routers and nonsense.

Ok so 1st, do you have JUST internet or internet tv etc

If you have just internet then chances are verizon ran a Cat5e cable to you Auctiontec POS (Peace of Shit)

If you have TV there is a catch, the internet is getting to your router via coax cable, the reasoning for this is the TV boxes need internets too.

Now I have the Internet + Phone + TV at my house, here is how I set it up:

1) I ran a Cat6 line from the outside box (its under the customer openable part) to my network room (a small room on the 2nd floor)

2) The Cat6 went into the WAN port of my D-Link DIR 655 Router

3) From there I ran a line to the rack switch that sits in the room to my home servers and game server (For my LAN party's xD )

4) From the LAN 2 Port I ran a Line to my other router a D-Link 8 Port Gigabit switch, from there to my computers

5) From the 8 port switch I ran a line into the WAN on the Auctiontec because u need to keep this in the network for the TV's, and put the coax into there aswell

Now u can bypass most of this by doing:

Router ---> Switch (I recommend not putting the Auctiontec right into the Main Router) ------> Verizon Router

The more complicated way is only if u have TV

If u have TV and feel like not hooking up there router have fun with no On Demand, Chanel Guides, Widgets, etc
