Well,
What do you look for?
First of all the price.
Second; I look for the size of GB/MB. Third; I look for trafic. And then the rest.

Price definatly has a toll on it. You have to think about the average end user who mostly cares about the price. Think about it, yes your support may be top notch, one of the best and you add that into your overall price, but not everyone needs the support, its nice to have, but not everyone needs it. Support is probably the #1 price hog, it ups the price allllot.

I can somewhat understand if you were the end user. However most of your are GSPs.
Wouldn't putting price before support potentially hurt you? I mean, if the company can't give you support then what would you do if something happened? Or what if their support responses are slow? Then that would effect your business. It's all odviously how well you want to protect your customers satisfaction. You may think your getting the deal of a lifetime with some low priced gig, and realize "Oh, they don't even have a control panel to manage payments. They have no automated payments or anything." Look at your current host and weigh the pros and cons. I understand price as being a huge factor, but if that umber stands in the way of providing your customers with w good base, I would say forget it.

Well most of the GSP's can trouble shoot their own issues. The host is responsible for their end, bandwidth, power, etc. But honestly who here that rents dedicated servers need technical support? Besides if you really need it, you can pay the small fee. Why spend hundreds for support when you don't need it? And besides not everyone wants the higher price for support. Also not everyone uses control panels. As long as they have a paypal subscription and their server is operating fine, who really needs a control panel? Yes it's a nice feature, but not many people use it.

Everyone is probably going to say price and that will always effect our decision as customers but i think that support is very important it will define your company if it is good or not

I guess the support issue here is true (at least for the GSP market).
RackSpace are pretty much proof-of-concept for this. They have the most fantastic support team of any company I have ever dealt with (your talking on the phone with a real person, from the same country, who actually knows what your talking about when you say that "your domain's MX record won't resolve correctly". But personally, im same as ComputerHelper here, and i think many others thing the same but won't admit it. Whatever you offer, price wins out in the end.

Well, you can if you want.
I am trying to get a base from the customers. I am not trying argue with my own, loyal customers on what is right when shopping for servers. Everyone has their own priorities. For example, My company RaidedServers. We cost a little more but not a whole lot more. We stand by our support and try our best give you an environment to grow. And dualcore, I can kind of see your point. I however would be concerned about the control if I were shopping simply because I like to see full fledged invoices, payment emails, and have the ability to easily mange all of that. Rather then waiting for the provider to say "I think we are going to send an invoice out here". It's more about control for me. I would want to feel like I have every aspect under control and no way of loosing it. Anyway, that's just me. Just so all of you know, this is part of some research for our new Control panel that will allow for maagement of any product service we offer. Beyond the current panel. |
