TF2 Server Gets Laggy
#1
After a few hours my TF2 server gets very laggy, and pings shoot well above 500. After I restart the server pings are very low. I think it may have something to to do with the rates but im not sure.

Here are my current settings.

//Server Rates
sv_maxcmdrate 0
sv_maxrate 20000
sv_maxreplay 2
sv_maxupdaterate 66
sv_mincmdrate 0
sv_minrate 0
sv_minupdaterate 10
fps_max 600

It might be your ISP. After a while of intensive usage, they might slowly lower your bandwidth until the usage is done. Some ISP's put this in place, so if you've been downloading a file for 4 hours, that you don't interfere with a person who is opening a web page.

It seems to be just with TF2 though, I've ran a garry's mod sever, and counter-strike server and they all never lag.

Is it hosted at your house or at a datacenter, if its at your house, could you post a speedtest pic?

Are you hosting all these servers at once now?

It appears that your connection might be getting a little crammed, depending on how many servers you are running, and depending how many slots you are using.

ping spikes = connection overload

25 slots, 15 bots, so only 10 people are on the server at a time.

The server is located at my friends house, no one uses the computer, and has a decent dual core cpu, 4 gigs of ram, and a 8 series graphics card. I am not sure the exact details on the unit, I just know that no one uses it.

So you have no idea of the network usage, since the computer is at your friends house and someone could be browsing youtube... Good luck.

LOL I heard that having a good graphics cards on your server actually makes your server run worse, since it uses more processing for graphics compared to SRCDS Toungue

Also, anytime he would be using the connection, it would cut your bandwidth in half. Think about this:

Any time he in on the internet, it will take half of the bandwidth for him, if he is constantly using the connection. That is why it gets laggy, because he is watching Youtube or downloading a torrent as you are hosting the server.
