Dedicated Linux server lag when going from 30 players, will help.
#1
Friends, sorry for English, I have a Dedicated Server Linux Centos, lag when going from 30 players.
The server has this configuration?

Intel Xeon core 2duo 2.53 | 2GB Ram | 250GB HD | 12Mbps link = full duplex.

I did some research and I heard something concerning the kernel, I need to put the server to run the process in real time. I believe that this is not the problem because it is a dedicated server, I believe that with this configuration to put some small servers beyond this 42-slot. Does CS: source consumes so much?

CentOS might be the problem, just change your distro to Debian it should be fine.

There are few people reporting the same problems on CentOS and we've saw the same issues on some servers.

What do you recommend? Is that really going to solve? I'm afraid to replace everything and have the same problem, i lost all the work done so far. But I think I'll risk it. fought for the help.

In our case we saw more performance.

And RedHat based distros use yum which uses more memory then apt-get.

In my opinion get Debian, CentOS kernel is really old ...

try debian 64 bit. and real time priority is usually a good idea even if "nothing" else runs on the server. the kernel (even the standard kernel, not only the RT patched) will use a more precise timing then. at least give it a try (how to to that is described in my howto in the lower part, after the kernel configuration).

Already asked to support the company that make me change for Debian, have even made my backup. If unresolved, which has already been here in the forum for friends.

Before you jump and do anything, have you first verified that the lag is in fact the the CPU-core bottle-necking and not a networking problem? A (somewhat) reliable way of checking is to type "stats" in the server console and see what it spits back. Do it a few times to get an average reading. If the CPU reading is close to 100% when your server is near-full, then you'd either want to look into switching Distros or optimizing the kernel.

I'd actually ask your provider for Arch Linux 64-bit if they'll offer it. It's by far the most optimized out of the box distro for SRCDS that I've seen...lowest CPU load and most stable FPS. You have to do a little prep work ahead of time with it loading necessary packages (Arch comes stripped down by default), but it's well worth it. Although, as others recommended, anything Debian based (Ubuntu, Mint, Debian itself, etc.) is good too.

Stats in RCON isn't perfect, faw from it. Have a look at top to see if it is maxing the cpu out.

top isn't reliable as well. there is no reliable way to measure srcds cpu usage. sorry, but we have to live with that.

Yea, I understand that. The reported value jumps all over the place. That's why I suggest to do it maybe 10 times or so and take an average reading. I know it's still not perfect, but I find it to be reliable enough.

Friends, good morning.

Follow the guidelines of friends Xtream Host-
I changed to Debian CentOS, time to boot the server has already felt the difference, it was good faster.
All fixed now, it was perfect, Thank you all for your help and especially for our friend Xtream Host-

Hello friends, my problem came back again and now I'm using Debian 5.0
I noticed that when the server is 30 players in three net_graph see the (larp: 100.0ms) changes from white to yellow, blinking and switching between colors and informed lag starts and see the server processing by 10% only.
I have a suspicion, it refers to real-time execution or something like this.
On Windows it is possible to make this change to improve performance on the server by placing it as real-time.
Is there something like this in linux?
