Can't Host
#1
Hi,

Ok here is my dilemma. I can host a srcds server on my laptop at college, just fine when connected to the ethernet port. But when I bring it home, and connect directly to the modem, using the same laptop, I cannot host. The server says not responding, to my friends online. My ISP where I can't host is Quest, and I have a Model # GT701 R modem. I was thinking that the modem is causing the problem, so I even DMZ'ed my laptop's IP, and that still didn't work. According to Quest's TOS, you can host servers, as long as they are not illegal file hosting, etc. So does anyone know why I can't host at home, with Quest internet? Oh yeh, forgot to add.......even when I am directly connected to the modem, it gives me a weird local ip like 192.168.0.4.

Thanks in advanced,
Nathan

Are you using "-ip" in the command line? If so make sure to reconfigure it to work with the new IP. Otherwise I would have no idear. It's a bit weird cuz there are no ports for you to forward when you connect directly to a modem right? Also check to make sure that when you run the server it has that little bit that says "adding master server..." and it's able to get VAC working, otherwise that means it's not even getting to the Steam Servers and it might be sumthing w/ the ISP

You need to forward the ports from your router. I'm guessing your family modem is acting as a router.

Well, I mean, I am going to directly hook up to the modem, so I shouldn't have to forward ports on the router. Do you know if there is a way I could disable the local ip address routing, so that when I connect directly to the modem, that it just displays my external ip?

Also, your ISP could be blocking that connection, also if it is just a modem and not a router, turn off windows firewall and any other anti-viris. That should furthe fix your problem

also for the IP thing.
+ip 0.0.0.0

That means it will listen on all IP address's.

I guess you would disable NAT then
