SRCDS Server With a Dynamic IP.
#1
So, I was creating my Counter-Strike dedicated server, when I came to the part that required me to port forward. This of course requires a static IP address.

I have just discovered that my iiNet Residential Naked DSL plan does not support Static IP adresses, and the only way to get one would be to change my plan to a Business Naked DSL plan, which costs $35 more a month.

I was wondering if there was any way I could make a dedicated server with my current Dynamic IP address.

That is fine, but when port forwarding, forward the port to your servers internal IP address. That way it will forward requests going to your external IP to your server machine.

Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

I'm slightly confused. By the servers IP do you mean "192.168.x.x"? Because that will change every time my modem resets right?
I have tried forwarding my ports the the current IP address and my friend is unable to join, get gets stuck on sending game data, or something similar to that.

I tried no-ip.com which I heard was similar to that. I really have no idea how to use dyndns and I have searched, could you possibly enlighten me a bit?

Really appreciate your help guys.

You can just install a simple windows service and it will update for you and then all you need to do is make people join: whatever.dyndns.com or somthing to that effect. There should be some info about it on their site.

You can still give your LOCAL computer a static IP via windows. You just can't get a free EXTERNAL static IP. Set your internal static so you don't have to change portforwarding.

Ok well I created a host, and I used the update tool and it said status: good, asked my friend to join using "connect khaos.game-host.org:27015"

And it worked! Big Grin

Thank you very much for helping me with this, I really appreciate it, I've been trying to get a dedicated server for 3 years (just look at some of my old posts).

There's only 1 other thing. Would my friends have to join through the console like that every time?
It's not really a problem, it would just be convenient if they could:

1. Add the server to their favorites
2. Join through steam friends
3. Find it in the steam list of servers

But anyway, I have to thank you again. Really appreciate it. Smile

I thought there was only 1 kind of static IP. I've looked up how to create it, and it requires the DNS address which is just "192.168.0.1" on my computer, and I thought they were meant to be dynamic like "72.142.124.3"

Can you explain it a bit more please, it would be nice to have this instead of using a DynDNS.
I created a local static IP. I can see why DynDNS is better to use, because the IP to connect to never changes.
But like I said before, is there a way for people to:

1. Add the server to their favorites
2. Join through steam friends
3. Find it in the steam list of servers

Thanks for you're help everyone.

You still need DynDNS.
1) People call add your server to favorites by adding the DNS rather then the IP address. They would have to manually add this info.
2) People can join via others. However when you send an invite, people will not be able to join without you giving the DNS (or current IP).
3) Everyone should be able to see it on the server list. You will not, however, be able to because for you it's on the LAN.

If you have a residential Naked DSL plan with iiNet, you may have discovered that it does not support Static IP addresses. This can be a problem when trying to port forward in order to create a Counter-Strike dedicated server. However, there are still ways to create a dedicated server with a Dynamic IP address.

One option is to use a dynamic DNS service. This service allows you to assign a domain name to your IP address, so that even though your IP address may change, your server can still be accessed using the domain name. There are many dynamic DNS services available, such wordle today as No-IP, DynDNS, and DuckDNS. These services are often free or have a small fee for additional features.

Another option is to use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service. With a VPN, you can create a private network that allows you to access your server from anywhere, even with a Dynamic IP address. There are many VPN services available, such as NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and CyberGhost. These services typically require a subscription fee, but may offer a free trial period.

It is important to note that using a dynamic DNS service or VPN may affect your server's performance, as there may be additional latency and bandwidth usage. However, if you are unable to obtain a Static IP address, these options can still allow you to create a Counter-Strike dedicated server.
