20mbit line- how much can i put?
#1
Im gettin fiber optic line soon and interested in the running capacity for servers

I currently have a dedi server running only gmod on my 12meg down/ 800k up line, its getting upgraded to 40/20 next month and i'm gonna add a few games

Gmod 15 slot (prob wont have more than 4 at a time, but lots of cpu usage), CSS, L4D2 servers (probably versus and campaign), Crysis Wars, and whatever else i can get on it

Server runs Phenom 9950 BE clocked to 3.0Ghz and 6gb of RAM

Looking to see what your opinions are

20mbit will pretty much host anything you like, limitations will be on the server machine.

I would agree, AMD Phenoms aren't the best for game servers.
Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

I have an AMD Phenom that I think is just as good at a Core2Quad of the same clock rate.

Thanks for the input, what kind of limitations are we talking?

Thinking and reality are two different things.

I have a Q9650 @ 4.0 Ghz, Core 2 duo E8400 @ 4.4Ghz, and my Core i7 rig at 4.3 Ghz, and this Phenom 9950 BE at 3.0 Ghz.

Guess what I think performs better?

Sure, clock for clock, the CPUs are neck and neck. Intel just has way more clockability :p
