how do i secure my team fortress 2 server

hey guys i have just set up a tf2 dedicated server on a windows xp box, basically i was just wondering how to lock it down so only i can change maps and ban players and so forth, i dunno if rcon is running or not or what really, so yea bit of a noob when it comes to rcon.. so any help would be awesome.. right now anyone can change a map or anything on my server and i've been trying to figure out rcon for hours.... cheers..

Startup parameter +ip <ip> to use rcon.
In the server.cfg:
rcon_password <pwd>
sv_rcon_banpenalty 5 // Minutes to ban users who fail rcon authentication
sv_rcon_maxfailures 5 // Max number of failed rcon auth before being banned


In gameconsole : rcon_password <pwd>
Commands in console: rcon <command>

Tip: use HLSW for administration when you're not ingame:

one more thing i cant get my server fps off 64fps.... it used to be 256fps... ???.. i set fps_max to 300... and tickrate at 66... but it still sits on 64fps, any ideas on that one??

Use a FPS booster.

This is my first post here


What you have to do is, add +fps_max 600 into your srcds launch parameters and install a metamod source plugin called FPS Booster (it doesnt actually boost your fps, it just resolves some timing issues and makes your cpu load more accurate). You don't even need WMP running.

The server is working fine for me and i did following:
+fps_max 600 -tickrate 100 -pingboost 2 in srcds.exe launch parameters
FPS Booster plugin

And now the server is running with 512 fps.
