Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated
A new required update to Team Fortress 2 and the dedicated servers have
been released. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the updates. The
specific changes include:
- Improved driver checks for various cards that can have problems with
specific driver versions
- Various updates to Russian and Polish localization
- Fixed loading screen and intro movie showing up on Windows Vista with
full screen AA
- Spies can no longer reload their revolver while cloaked
- Demomen grenades now collide with players and Engineer buildings after
the first bounce, but still won't explode on contact
- Improved startup network initialization to catch issues with server
firewalls popping up in the background
- Fixed a sound corruption issue which could cause audio popping
- Fixed achievement storage issues that caused a problem with the Head
of the Class achievement
Jason
If you have a modded server.dll or server_i486.so file - it may no longer work. Here are the replacements:
OUT OF DATE goto http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/5533
v1.0.0.5 as of 09/10/07
32 Players server_i486.so (Linux):
http://youngteam.eu/files/tf2/v1.0.0.5/s...486.so.bz2 (thanks to kilorat for providing patch - see link below)
http://rat.org/tf2/32players.html
32 Players server.dll (Windows):
http://youngteam.eu/files/tf2/v1.0.0.5/server.dll.zip
How-To
Back-up your existing server_i486.so or server.dll from /tf2/bin before replacing.
After you've replaced the file, go to /tf2/cfg/valve.rc and open this file in notepad or something similar. Add:
and add the usual:
in your startup parameters.

RE: Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated
I just want to report that now if you are using the hexed server.dll (32 players) with -autoupdate switch on.
It will also give out this when u run your server:
MasterRequestRestartt
Your server is out of date. Please update and restart.
It seems that Valve is also aware of this and want to prevent us from from doing it.

RE: Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated
I don't have autoupdate on and I still get the message.
I believe this also prevents it from being listed in the master servers, try viewing the servers in the internet tab, and find one with maxplayers 32.
I think Valve finally decided to put a stop to us daring to not play the game exactly as they intended.

Cool - never tested this before release. So hexed files no longer needed?
Until another workaround is found..

It still works, but nobody can just browse and find your server, the only use I can see for this now is at LAN parties.
Or if you are lucky enough to have a big community that knows about your server and can keep it populated just from word of mouth.

RE: Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated
Hey, someone figured out how to get 32 players to be listed, check the server browser.
If anyone figures out the trick, please post. I will post if I find it.
These guys did it. I don't see any info on how though.

Already been in contact with every person/club/organization who run these 32 player servers. Pest won't give out the details as they received the info from someone else who doesn't want to release it yet.

And I can't figure it out on my own..
I tried starting the server, then in another window quickly rename the files, since maybe it does a md5 check on the files or something, but I can't fool it.

RE: Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated
How was this done before? Did someone open up the DLL in a hex editor and change a value from 24 to 32?

RE: Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server updated
And now the problem is, the server goes into "out of date" mode, where it spams the console with "Your server needs to be restarted in order to receive the latest update."
So my guess is, the master servers reject any server in that state, and that is how they are blocking them, is if you modify the DLL's, it puts it in that state.

I will be releasing a patch to that real soon! Stay tuned!
