can peoples rates affect other peoples hit reg and how?

I think so, if someone has really low rates they can show up very choppy to other players so you will not be able to hit them as well..

i think so to
i had some very smart users at server, they set rate 5000 or 3500 to low ping
and they are hard to hit because they dont move they teleport from one point to another

Setting rates only makes yourself lag so other peopl will NEVER lag because someone has bad ping / low rates.
However if the distance between a client and the server is big (pings higher than 100) and low rates are set the possibility is there that the client that's slow shows up a little bit choppy in the server, this has however no effect on the other clients and the server.
They might move a bit choppy but still go the same speed and movement of a normal client, hitting them is also not a problem (you won't miss if you shoot the guy like any other client)

client rates are as the name says for clients, they don't influence anything else. Also if you set low rates, it only works into your disadvantage because your game will update slow and you will hit twice less than with normal rates due to running "behind" on the server and other clients.

thats exactly what i thought but i decided to ask this because i've never heard anyone disagree when one of the thousands of people i've heard going off at someone else for having rates that make them unhitable.

the way i saw it was the clients send all their key strokes n movements to the server then the server processes and sends it out to all the other clients at what ever the rate each client has specified. also everybody your hit box is Server Time - ping - Client View Interpolation(client specified) do you see anything in there that could be changed by another client?

there is also a way of making yourself move very rugged like to other players that i do sometimes (very good fun). the secret is download utorrent and start downloading something on it! correct me if i'm wrong but i think this happens when you push a button your computer has plenty of available bandwidth so it you see yourself smoothly move forward but your connection is blocked up because you are downloading torrents which causes your output to unnaturally bunch up and release. if you manage to send your output to the server within your ping (usually 300-700ms) then you will not see yourself teleport because the server instruction set matches yours therefore the server won't pull you back to where it thinks you should be. however you are still sending this very choppy signal to the server which makes you move very rugged like in everybody elses' screen. remember everybody's hit box is still calculated between the server and client so if a player manages to shoot u it will hit u. Sometimes it can be a draw back if you freeze into position because the enemy only has to shoot a still target but most of the time you teleport away just as they are about to shoot you Big Grin

i'm going to save this forum and send the link to anyone i see complain about another persons rates Big Grin

p.s. i think everything is right there and i believe i have been using your principles but let me know if anything is wrong Drocona

Yes, what you say is correct, connection can be influenced in such a way but as you said, it has nothing to do with one persons rate but a "bad" connection from the client.
Simply setting low rates will not influence anything else but the guy doing it in their gameplay, ratewhiners (that's what I call them) simply don't get how the game works or believe in this so strong they actually manage to make it true for themselves in their minds (This last one is good for the rest cause they won't hit you Toungue Big Grin)
I tell them to stop telling others and their selves complete bullshit, shut their mouth and play like any normal person or leave by their selves. If they keep going it's a simple kick for them.
