i suspect they do it this way because they don't want to be in the business of providing lots of support. two good resellers are nationvoice and darkstar.

What he said.
Darkstar is a little cheaper, good service.
Nation voice I found a bit better ping at least to Seattle. But you pay for what you get I guess.

Both are very good.d

I called Ventrilo yesterday to see when they would start selling the licenses again because it would be a nice thing to offer along side my game servers. They said they MIGHT start them again in the 4th quarter of the year, but they would only sell 20 and it would be a first come first server basis

i'm not sure you talked to, but i have my doubts that is accurate. they have never sold them on a first come basis, that's not their business model.

licensing is based on the number of potential clients and the reputability of your business. unless you can maintain thousands of clients and are an established business with a reputation, they won't even consider your application.

in the past, you had to purchase a minimum of a 1000 licenses to start, and that's assuming there wasn't someone else willing to purchase more. they cherry pick the applications.

but, if they are changing the way they do business, thats very interesting -- considering the number of companies that want licenses. doesn't really make sense from a profitability standpoint.

I can't see them changing their model anytime soon.

Much less bother to deal with a dozen or so company, than every GSP under the moon.

Imagine the cost of billing and chasing those invoices alone?

I use hurricane also Big Grin
For their prices, and support i chose them
But once i get over 300+ clients i will upgrade towards Nation voices reseller, their control panel is much better.

Hey there!

Have any of you thought about using Mumble. Mumble is a voice server just like ventrillo, BUT Mumble is FREE.

Darkstar has recently lowered its prices for the first 300 slots, so it wouldnt be a bad idea checking them out.

I'm just telling ventrilo to eat a dick and switching to Teamspeak 3 in Dec.

In have hookups at hurricanehost, and can get vent slots for as low as .14 cents a slot. But since I do not host ventrilo anymore, kinda sucks in a way. . .

I agree. I've been a long-time Vent user because it uses less resources than TS, but the licensing situation sucks.

TS 3 I hope solves the resource problem, and you can buy a TS 100-slot license for a $100 one-time fee.

You can run a 9-slot Vent server for free. Mine doesn't get used much and people are welcome to use it: vent.pwnertv.com port 3784
