We don't know exactly HOW L4D is using servers.
As far as we know, L4D might not even require a dedicated server. However, when the beta comes out, we'll check the list and try to upgrade if it's there. You can always check the list yourself by type in this command: Code: hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game list

Please do not PM me for server related help fqdn Wrote:if you've seen the any of the matrix movies, a game server is not all that different. it runs a version of the game that handles the entire world for each client connected. that's the 2 sentence explanation.

L4D will use srcds. From Valve's Eric Smith:
Quote:We'll be releasing the Left 4 Dead dedicated server files prior to the Left 4 Dead demo being released. More details will be sent to the mailing lists when we have them.

With that said... they better add multi-core support for the L4D DS.

Well, the GAME will support at least dual core (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE QUAD CORE!). We can only hope that the Dedicated Server has the same

I hope they patch tf2 eventually for multicore server and client support as well.
Playing it, it's funny, one core is near maxed out, and the rest are doing nothing.

I don't think the multi core SRCDS is going to happen
