Bandwidth-per player for TF2
#1
I would think this is a fairly easy question for anyone who runs a TF2 server to answer, but after searching high and low on the Internet and this forum, I cannot find a definitive answer to this question --

How much bandwidth is needed per-player for a TF2 server?

Anyone?

errr, nevermind i am idiot. i'll just see how much bandwidth i use when i connect to a server and multiply that by the number of slots i need.

I'd suggest connecting to a server with exactly the same amount of slots you're gonna have that'll be full after you connect - and use a server with a high ping and one with a low one.

for anyone that is interested -- tf2 seems to use less bandwidth than i expected . . . on a full 24 person server the max downstream rate (server to me) was around 16k and upstream (me to server) was around 7k.

It is relevant to what you set your tickrate, I pretty much like how they explained Tick Rate in this article:
http://whisper.ausgamers.com/wiki/index.php/Tickrate

They have a couple of graphs wrt to players/[option] and state how much bandwidth is needed to serve.
