I know I posted different server specs before, but that didn't work out.
How many slots would these server specs hold:
1)
2x Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz Processors
1 GB RAM
2x73 GB 10K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD
100 Mbps Uplink
-----------------------
2) (Only the RAM is changed)
2x Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz Processors
2 GB RAM
2x73 GB 10K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD
100 Mbps Uplink
If you could, give me how many slots it could hold with all slots 33 tick, all slots 100 tick.
Thanks in advance,
Meow Mix.

More RAM will not give you more slots. However you're probably better off with the 2gig system if they are the same price.

It would be about $20 more per month. But having 1 gig of ram will be the same as having 2 gigs? I would have never guessed. I would expect it to need more ram to host more slots, otherwise be limited.

Linux, I have not used linux in the past, so this will be my first time. I don't want to have to pay the extra fee for having windows, plus people praise Linux, and say it so good. So I am anxious to give it a try.
Anyone have any ideas on how many slots it can handle though?

I always say 512 MB RAM per core is sufficient in most cases, like Mooga said, I've ran 100+ slots including bots on a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 1GB memory, maxing the CPU, not the memory by far (As far as I can remember the memory usage was around 600-700 after 9 days of running)
One question for the poster:
Please supply the CPU type/number. As I read this it makes me think of an old P4 based Xeon, which is pretty much a waste of money in my opinion.

I don't know, all it says is the information I have given.
I contacted Sales, and they said it was an older version of xeon's, so I am assuming it is the P4 based on?!
I just need a general idea on how many slots it can hold. This server is not going to be hosting 100% gameservers, only half of it will. the other half will be used for development on a mod I am leading.

RAM will limit you if you want to run orange box games - I still see srcds instances using up to 700MB ram...
