Hi, I'm trying to achieve getting 1000FPS on source servers.
I've heard 64-bit doesn't allow for 1000FPS for srcds??
I've got 8 gigabytes of ram in my box, and I REALLY REALLY would like to utilize all 8 gigs. So how can I utilize all 8 gigs of my ram and still run 1000FPS source servers? Because I'm also going to be running 1.6 and other game servers.
Hardware:
2x Xeon Harpertown E5410's @ 2.33GHZ
8 Gigs of ram
15K RPM SAS Drives
Running on Centos 5
kernel:
2.6.18-53.1.19.el5

Unless the Linux version is special, SRCDS does not have a 64bit version.
I could be wrong, but to my knowledge there is no 64bit version of SRCDS.

Yeah. 64-bit can run the 32-bit source server, but only at a max of 333FPS. Is there anyway I can bump that up to 1000FPS without having to switch to 32bit rendering 70% of my ram useless?

from what ive read on forums, 64bit and 1000fps do NOT get along. unless you run other applications, i doubt that much ram is necessary

Well I plan to host around 300-350 slots(varying games, fps, tickrate) maximum with the likelihood that no more than 150 or so would be full simultaneously. Does anyone agree that 8 gigs might be overkill for that many slots considering CPU's get overloaded before ram does?

Ya, I've heard of people running large servers with under a gig of ram.

8GB ram for running SRCDS servers is just overkill.
I have 4GB in our box and I have never seen it use more than 2GB, keeping in mind I run about 5 servers.

for my boxes, srcds at 12 slot starts off at only 80MB, but can peak up to 250MB
so a 100 slot requires about 2.5GB at max
200 slots = 5GB max
300 slots = 7.5GB max
So its safe to say 8GB will be enough. It won't be a overkill but then again, i doubt you will ever have a single server with 300 full at any one time.
I'm running intel quad core q6600's and it can bearly keep up with 100 slots full (about 80% cpu usage)..
I wonder how 2x Xeon Harpertown E5410's @ 2.33GHZ will go in comparison.

I'd just like to point out that I'm hitting ~950 fps on a Fedora 9 server architecture:x86_64. This is just new install with no addons or other 'enhancements'. I started the server with <+max_fps 1000> appended at the end. I haven't tested for stability of configured it fully yet.
