Cmd window automatically closes...
#1
Hello

First off, I've downloaded all the files needed for srcds if anybody needs to ask. I have also downloaded a server.cfg from this site and I've checked it myself to make sure everything is in place, so it isn't related to this problem. I am using Windows Vista.

I'll try to explain my problem the best I can - I open the "start" window and type "run" in the box. I open that program, and I type "c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map de_dust2 +fps_max 600 -maxplayers 10 -port 27015 -tickrate 100". Srcds then starts, and the first thing it says is "Counter-Strike.dll loaded" and then it says a bunch of gibberish about ES Tools (an add-on that I have) and event scripts. Then it just closes the box. The last thing I can read before it closes is "Initializing Python" (I have no idea what that is). It says some other messages after that, but they go by too fast for me to read.

Thanks in advance.

Good explanation.

There is probably some error in the Mattie Eventscripts installation or something and that's why the server won't start, and that's why it closes shortly after start.

You can try to see rest of the error messages by first starting command line. So, first do "Start" -> "Run" -> cmd.exe. Then you get on the command line. Then start the server as you did before: "c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map de_dust2 +fps_max 600 -maxplayers 10 -port 27015 -tickrate 100". Now when the server crashes on start, you'll get to see rest of the error messages because the command prompt doesn't close.

My guess is that you don't have Python installed on your Windows and Mattie Eventscripts assumes that you have. I have experience only on Linux servers where Python is installed (almost) by default, so I'm not completely sure how it should work on Windows. I'd say you'll get your server working by installing Python: http://www.python.org/download/

Python is somewhat popular scripting language. Mattie Eventscripts makes uses of all the functionalities of Python, so it brings much flexibility and functionality in ES scripts.

If installing Python doesn't help, then post the startup messages / errors and we'll take another guess Toungue.

Try opening a CMD prompt and then starting the game from there.
Or a batch script.

Always get your server working without plugins, try disable them and see again.

Cheers CSS, my server works now! You really helped me, I was searching this forum for hours, and couldn't find a solution.

Also thanks to Mooga and Drocona. I'll try that the next time my server decides to stop working.
