Noob Help
#1
I need some help. I have successfully installed srcds and got the DOD:S game content, but I have run into a problem. When I start it, even though the scope is internet, it chooses to run local with the ip address 192.168.0.2. I want it to be public, but it won't let me.

I have a netgear router, and a firewall, but I have enabled the default, 27015 port open on both. It still won't change the ip in the srcds. I have tried using my favorites server option to test, but it will only read the local.

And BTW, I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

you want it to run on its local ip with the proper ports forwarded in the router.

you assign the IP so it knows what local IP to use.

Which ports do I need to open? I opened the default, 27015.

27000 - 27030 should cover it

Ok. I have successfully opened those ports in my router and firewall, but it still won't work outside of my LAN.

Ok, new question. I just found out my ISP pools several of their clients into 1 server with 1 IP address. so technically, THEY have to open the port (in which they don't want to do) which is what I need to do to allow people to connect to my srcds server. They are offering me my own static ip for $9.95 / month, but I want to know if there is another way. I have looked into http://www.DynDNS.com, but I am not quite sure how to get that working.

Can I have any help on this?

Thanks!

Well $9.95 per month is a complete ripoff, should be more like $9.95 one time.
In this case I'd go for the DynDNS or No-IP, they give you a subdomain which redirects to your IP (it updates all the time), this will however not allow you to add your servers to the favorites (because that registers by IP, not DNS)

Might you really want a static IP I recommend just getting a gamserver from a company (it's MUCH cheaper than running at home and more reliability and quality)

I am thinking about switching ISP's. I see now that mine stinks. It is very slow.

Thanks for all your help!

The problem is my ip i shared, so is there a way to forward my ip from the inside? My netgear router has a DynDNS tool in it where I can log in, but I don't know how that works... Sad

Well last person to know how that works would be me, I'm an anti-router guy, haven't used one for a loooong time!
