Server.cfg Collection - help needed
#1
Would anyone be interested in building a collection of server.cfgs for some HL/SRC servers?
Hopefully something well organized and explained. So, for example if I want to set up a quick HL2MP server for a LAN I can find a HL2MP-LAN cfg and if you need a HL2MP for a small turny you could find one for that.

Installing server is quite easy once you know what you are doing. It's writing server.cfgs that have always proven annoying for me because I need to search out for exactly what I need.

I was hoping we can upload them all and list them (possibly on the main srcds.com website?).

A collection of easy-to-edit boot and update files would also be cool (I can write those in seconds Smile)

On the new website we are planning on a knowledge database, we will add all kinds of CFG templates to that.

Of course we need the templates (since I know CSS best, I wouldn't know what a good HL2DM would be for example), it's a good idea.

What would be good in my eyes:
- Group commands that have to do with a topic, for example make a group comment //Rates, list all the rate settings below (decalfrequency is NOT a rate setting)
- Add comments to as much CVars as possible, it's good to know what you are actually setting right?
- Add in a comment, LAN/Internet/Game
- Zip up the .cfg and name it for example "HL2DM-LAN.zip" and upload it as an attachment.

Can we also have a wiki?
I know it's a LOT of work but it many people work on it, they can be VERY useful.

SirTiger is working real hard on it, though I can not give a timeframe, nor will I estimate one (to keep away from disappointments!)

We've decided NOT to go for a wiki, yes it would be a lot of work but that's not the reason, it's hard to moderate. People can add things and modify articles etc, while we can close that down all the work will be in my hands again.

Instead we will be using a knowledge database, ideally I will set up a team from the most knowledgeable people on the forums to write, receive and edit self made or sent in tutorials and articles by the community. I reckon this will be the best way to keep everything up to date and correct instead of letting every random guy edit things all over.

I'm really excited so many people have offered to help already.
In the near feature I will be assigning some moderators (since I'm the only one left!), to aid me and others in helping eachother.

I created a set of eight .cfg files that switch LAN, Internet, Teamplay, Deathmatch, low gravity, and regular gravity...

I have the pack on my site in a .zip file--don't worry im not gonna send you a virus...

You can get those here.
They should be the third one down on my downloads page...

Hope this helps

Yeah, I find the cfg and setting up admin is what takes the most time with the servers.
That and scripts for linux, (Auto start) and other things. I think a knowledge database will be nice.
I hate trying to use the search for somethings. Smile
