Server Cannot be joined by others [HELP]
#1
I know you have heard this repeatedly, but whenever i runs srcds, in console, it says as follows: Network:
Code:
IP 192.168.1.100, mode mp, dedicated yes, ports 27015 sv/ 27005 cl

I believe this is where the problem is. It should be my external ip, if i am correct. My startup line is: "C:\Program Files\Valve\hlserver\srcds.exe" -console -game cstrike -autoupdate +maxplayers 20 +map cs_office

If i try GUI mode, it still shows my internal ip.

If I try to add +ip 97.101.xx.xxx I get the error: Couldn't allocate dedicated server UDP port
I followed this guide http://forums.srcds.com/showthread.php?tid=585&pid=2750#pid2750 to port fowarding
I will provide any info needed to solve this. ~thanks in advance~

It will always show your internal IP.
You have to set up port forwarding.

If you are behind a router, you cannot bind your external IP. It wont work.

I dont think you understood me correctly, i have tried it repeatedly without that. Still isn't accessible by others.

I said in my original post that i had set up port-fowarding.

Ok. So i tried making the server without my router, just from the cable modem->computer. Now in srcds, it displays my external ip, in the console, instead of what i used to get-192.168.1.101 But it still can't be seen by others.

If others can't connect then your ISP might be blocking incoming connection on that port.

He is correct in saying that you can NOT enter your external IP.. However what he is not telling you is that you dont want to get ride of the ip command...you just need put in your internal IP. thats all =]

which port would that be? I have the same problem and can't get anybody to help me. Would the ISP know what I'm talking about? How would I get them to unblock the ports neccessary?

27015 is the port.

If they blocked it they won't allow it, they know it's a server port, that's most likely the reason for them blocking it!

If you made a direct connection to the internet (so the server gets the external IP) and the server doesn't show up it's either anti-virus or firewall block or ISP block.
first 2 you can fix, third (ISP) you can't and it won't work.

so the external IP is the one that shows up in the DOS command when I type "ipconfig /all" right? and the internal is "whatismyip.com"? Or is it the other way around.

Im still learning this stuff =]

Would this cmd line variant work for you?

C:\Program Files\Valve\hlserver\srcds.exe" -console -game cstrike -autoupdate hostport 27015 +maxplayers 20 +map cs_office

do this w/o router in place. Ensure that you're windows firewall is off or manually add SRCDS to the firewall to be accepted. Some ppl have mentioned this in various ways.

if it works, then put in place the router and forward UDP ports 27015 and 20720. I believe this should work for ya.

Go in steps, such that you eliminate possible causes to your problems. For instance, do you have a problem playing from this PC (w/o the SRCDS running). etc. etc.

when there is no router, meaning the PC is directly connected to your modem, you will usually only have 1 IP address. That one will be your public one, which was assigned by your ISP.

When you have a router, typically, the router will get the public IP and your PC will have a private IP. The private IP was handed out by your router.

Port forwarding is done by the router (when you set it up) to take specific traffic going to the public IP and directing it to the private IP. It's analogous to the post office bringing your mail! Cool
