ok i want to run 3 20 slot pub 100tick servers, a 20 slot 75 tick server, and a 12 slot 100 tick private server. which of these hardware will run it better...

Intel Pentium D 3.2Ghz
2GB DDR2 Ram
1500Gb Monthly bandwidth

or

Intel Dual-Core Xeon 2.4Ghz

From what I know the Xeons are alot better.
I would say go with it, I think that server will be able to handle 60slot??
Not sure maybe more or less, see what one of the others here thinks.

Honestly you are looking at maybe running half of what you listed on that Pentium D. While our Xeon is being setup they put us on a Pentium D temporarily and it is killing me. That is also what I run on my gaming computer and I have another brand new one in my closet that I am about to sell because its just crap.

There is a 68$ processor that totally outdoes this one.

Yeah, I just checked. With 24 people on the Pentium D on a TF2 server, it stays at 95% usage on a single core.

so if i want about 80-100 slots, can the xeon handle that?

I'd change that to a maybe, if the Xeon is P4 based, really maybe (1x 3GHz core got me about 40 slots @ 100 tick)

If it's the new Core2 series it will hold for sure Smile

As Drocona said, we NEED CPU MODEL/STEPPING.

If it's P4 based, not a chance of 100 slots.

actually the xeon is better in this case, it's the same 1066FSB, same cache but you're getting 2.4Ghz instead of 2.13Ghz, it's the equivalent of an E6600.

Yep, fqdn is right, sorry both are core2 based, so the Xeon is actually faster.
