A whole host of problems :S
#1
Hey,

First time trying to get anything like a dedicated server to work and I'm really struggling so any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to run a Counter Strike Source server for me and some friends to expand on a clan we lead (not the most original use of a dedicated server, lol, but still we'd really like to give it a go). I'm trying to just run it at the moment from my desktop (with a fairly good spec and internet connection) but cannot get it to work properly at all.
I followed your tutorial here as best I could and managed to get the cstrike files all downloaded and I can start the dedicated server from Windows --> Run but not the GUI shortcut (problem one).
I'm also having difficulties connecting. I'm trying to just connect for testing purposes as of now, so am attempting it from my laptop (on the same network as the server PC). I can successfully see the dedicated server over LAN but cannot Join the game (I could briefly earlier after changing some of the port forwarding settings on my router but now it seems to have reverted to the old problems :-/) and I can't see it at all over the net (tried plugging the IP address into Favourites and it says "Server not responding" - again earlier it was viewable whilst I could connect over LAN, even registered that I was playing when I could see it but I couldn't Join the game then or add to favourites, just see it).
I can't understand why the problems have come back, or why the GUI wont open. If it helps when I run the server it tells me "Incorrect Price Blob Version" but I can't run the UpdateTool as it just flashes on then off screen and can't find the .BAT file for it...

Like I said any help greatly appreciated

Here's my tutorials that might help:

What commandline are you using to update your server and which one to run the server?

Heh, I've just been reading through that tutorial, its by far the best I've found so far and answered a few questions about commandlines. As such the commandline I'm using to run the server is:
C:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 33 -ip 192.168.0.7 -port 27015 -maxplayers 10 +map de_dust2

and for the updater is now:
C:\srcds\HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\srcds

thanks to your tutorial. Thats solved the "flash briefly" problem with the Updater (thankyou ^^ although it still doesnt seem to do anything...) and I think, from reading your tutorial that I am not using the correct settings for Port forwarding as I am behind a router.

EDIT: just ran the Updater once more and this time watched it verify/check a list of files and then it claimed it shut down. Hopefully thats normal behaviour Toungue
Also with the new command lines thanks to your tut I've now got it back working over Lan (and at a MUCH better fps rate for some reason)

Sometimes it takes a while before it continues Smile

If you mean the Updater it says "Checking bootstrapper version <p> Updating..." for ages then begins with lines like:
"Checking/Installing Base Source Models etc."
Then runs through a list of them for about ten seconds, then just closes.
