Can I run my server good?
#1
Well, I'm running our CAL team's match server, and I want to know if this would be fine for the server.

(This is run off of my comp, not a seperate server)

Pentium D 2.8 GHz
2 GB Ram
180 GB worth of HD space

My server has..

10 slots
66 tick
password protected
200 - 275 fps

Should I be able to run this server fine?

Pentium D 2.8GHz => will do fine
Run server at same computer you play on => no good there

10 slots => no good either (looking at the bandwidth picture), you need 7xx kbps upload for 10 slots 33 tick, your max is 5 slots (maybe 6 but I doubt that)
66 tick => no good, run 33 tick max at that connection

FPS is fine

So, I'm afraid it's not going to work out on that connection, you need a faster one.
Also if you get a faster one you need another computer to host the server from.

Thanks for the help Drocona =]

But, when you purchase a server computer, does it matter what kind of video card/sound card you have to run the server? Say if the mobo you got for your server doesn't come with sound, and you run the server, will people on the server have no sound?

Same thing with video card. Say you get some video card that costs $50 on your server just so you can see whats on your screen. Is that going to affect the FPS/graphics of the clients on the server, and how fast the server processes?

Most people are using dedicated hosted servers, so the hosting company gives the information on upload/download speeds... Your home ISP might offer a higher upload speed, but it certainly wont be anywhere near what a dedicated server hosting company offers.

No. Server gfx card has no effect on the game server performance or FPS...
