Specs are:
Celeron@2,4 GHz
512 MB RAM
It should at least run a 16 slot CS:S server @ 100tic.
Is the RAM enough or does ist need to be at least 1GB?
How important is the RAM according to the number of slots?

Im pretty sure 1GB is optimal. Is this a dedicated box? What connection is it on? Im not a big fan of using a Celeron processor for a server, especially a game server, but whatever you want to do.

Celerons are bad for SRCDS. I guess you could get 16 slot but really get a better CPU.

Yes it would be a dedicated one. The connection doesn't matter it will be good enough. Its a shame that Celeron CPUs are so bad. Does anyone know why?

Some think to do with the archutecture, Drocona is the one to ask though.

Well Celeron's are very low on cache, which makes them real slow (and why we prefer intel over AMD atm, since they have more cache) and the FSB speed is lower than any other CPU too. Also there are some rumors which have never been confirmed nor proven wrong, that the celerons are P4's that fail testing, downclocked so they do work and enter the market as celerons (budget CPU's)

I'm curious after the L3 cache performance of AMD, never seen benchmarks or anything.
I don't really go for AMD or Intel, it's just what works best (which one is the most fast) at the moment, right now for me that's intel up with real good speeds, but I presume AMD is also working on a CPU that's will rock the intels, then it turns around again and again...

Yeah the new phenom processors have L3 cache right now. But its just a matter of opinion.
