Im looking at betting a new server and colocating and hosting quite a few servers on it. Now I know the faster the hard drive speed, the faster the map loads. Right now I have a 7.2k hard drive speed, with hosting 3 servers, and the maps changing are fine. Now I am hosting a lot more servers, 10-12ish to be exact, anyone know if I should get a 10k or 15k hard drive speed. I mean is the peformence really worth it? Does anyone notice an improvement? 15k is also quite expensive and then you have to get a special motherboard to support SAS......
Thanks for any help

one word, no, it's not worth it.
I have yet to see a server with a 10k rpm drive to outperform a 7.2k.
5k rpm drives ARE really slow! never use those

hey if it's really cheap compared to the 7.2k then get it, always nice to have faster HDD(faster OS load, etc`).
but if you need to add like $200 then it's not worth it.

Yeah Im getting a Dell server hopefully soon with RAID setup so if I want 10k or 15k hard drives, I have to get two of them.

obviously overall its nicer to have as fast as possible for your components...
10k is probably the standard sort of speed you get from most providers nowadays.

The 7.2K is Sata and the 10k is SCSI and the 15k is SAS

Be very careful with a 15k RPM harddisk. Many of those are not meant to run 24/7 in a server. It could damage the drive! Meanwhile many 7.2k RPM can afford a 24/7 usage.
Besides, a faster Mapchange is not going to reduce the reconnect time during a mapchange for the clients in any way.

Allright thanks for the tip. I might go with the 10k one.
