server wont start
#1
I have used SRCDS a lot and have never had this problem. I am having a LAN party firday and just installed XP on an old computer to use as a server. I installed SRCDS using the command
hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\SRCDS\Server -retry
it all seemed to work. I tried to start the server and nothing happens. The process is not running in windows. I also tried running the server in console mode using all the necessary parameters. The server still did not start. There is nothing at all in event viewer. What is going on?

Hi

I'm having the same problem. I just switched from linux back to windows and i just reinstalled my DoDS test server (its only a test server so doesn't matter if its on linux or windows)

Anyways i looks to me that the process isn't even starting, i double click the srcds.exe to start the GUI based server and my cpu doesn't even spike or anything (denoting that it is actually attempting to do something), it just does nothing.

I also tried it with a shortcut to srcds.exe setup to run in console mode, same thing, i also tried opening the windows cmd prompt, switching to that directory and running it directly in console mode and the console box just moves straight to a new line as if i had pressed enter

Its a bit strange, i'm gonna delete everything but the game cache and redownload it see if that fixes it, any ideas tho?

[edit] i just tried as suggested in another thread to use a bat file, the bat file opens a console window for a second (with a line of text reading what is in the bat file) then closes instantly Sad

"C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer\srcds.exe" "-console -allowdebug -debug -game Counter-Strike Source +maxplayers 32 -tickrate 100 +map de_nuke +sv_lan 0"

Here is mine, I am not sure if it is right or not cause the guy that knows this stuff is sick and I dont want to wake him up. My problem is just like these guys as well, but the machine is briefly, for a half second, gets a 15% load.

Try:

Quote:"C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer\srcds.exe" -console -debug -game cstrike +maxplayers 32 -tickrate 100 +map de_nuke +sv_lan 0

Alright. I found this thread and am hoping you guys can help me.

I have the source dedicated server on my machine. I have run it quite frequently without any problems what so ever. Just since the last update or even a little before it, I started having a problem to where I couldn't get it to run. On the desktop is the Source Dedicated Server.exe that I always used before, and Always Ran before. when I double click it, It starts like it should, showing me all my available options. when I hit the "start server" button, it acts like it is going to boot it up for about 2 seconds *if that* and then all of a sudden disappears. There is no Process thread for it in the Task Manager, there is no system lag and it doesn't even exist. I can do this as many times in a row without the program ever catching. Any help on what I can do to fix this?

My system specs :

AMD DualCore 3800+
3 gigs ram
760 gigs hdd space
10 mbit connection

any help is appreciated.

You would be best running srcds instead of the Steam Source Dedicated server - its crap tbh :p

Anyway, whats your startup line for the server?

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 205 is the target

Start in is just "C:\Program Files\Steam"

I have the same problem. My server doesn't want to start.
OS is Windows XP. AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2Ghz, 1 Gb RAM, 80 Gb disk, 3,5 Mb/s internet connection.

I use a batch file to run with the following parameters:
srcds.exe -game "Counter-Strike Source" +maxplayers 12 +map de_dust2 -autoupdate -insecure -ip 217.10.47.XXX -port 8005
This file is placed in the same folder where the srcds.exe is. Even if I double-click srcds.exe, the cursor just blinks for about quarter of second.
