Hello All.

I run a lan for my school and we just borught a new system for a server. Specs:
AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ AM2
ASUS Mainboard - not sure what?
2Gb RAM
320Gb SATA HDD

So yeah its a good system. Anyway since i'm the one who will be setting it up, What linux(or windows :S) distro do you recomend I use? It will be running:
Srcds Counter-Strike source - possibly with deathmatch or gungame
Server for the hl1 mod - Natural Selection
And, Apache/MySQL/PHP for a website

Another question. Will this system handle all this? (CSS 32player) If not I can put the webserver on another system.

Thanks in advance.

Just run on windows Xp or Server2000. Doesn't matter really - Well with linux i think you can get higher FPS easier. A few friends run Ubunto OS for servers, but i am still on windows XP but i am def. going to try ubunto

I say go for windows, it's easier to setup and the SRCDS was built to run on windows.

The server should handle it as long as you don't get enormous bandwidth streams from the webserver.

As for FPS, both windows and linux can run 1000FPS, in Linux you have to rebuild the kernal and in windows you have to set something in the BIOS (on newer procs, I know P3 can run 1000FPS without adjusting anything). Well 1000FPS might sound nice, it's the maximum possible but it WILL give lagproblems. I suggest running ~500 FPS servers, those have best performance, windows and some Linux distro's can run it without editing the install.

Hey sorry for a small hijacking this post Smile But do you know if an AMD Athlon 2000+ ~ 1.7Ghz can run at 500 FPS? It runs currently with 250 FPS +/- with two bots

If you are running linux I think you'll have to rebuild the kernal
If you are running windows you can simply set the fps_max to 700 and it should be at 512 FPS

You can also try this at Linux, if it doesn't work it needs a rebuild.
