Low FPS On Server!?
#1
Running CSS on SRCDS Standalone (32 Player, 66 Tickrate, 300 MAXFPS)

On a P4 3.0Ghz HT, 1GB RAM, 100Mbit Connection

Have tried settings at 100 Tickrate and all the way up to 700 MAXFPS.

Server Console shows about an average of 15FPS

??? Thats bad..

Why is it doing this?

Its not running any other programs/servers - and yes WMP is running in background, and priority is set high,

Ingame it lags - not in ping, choke, loss, but players and props are skipping and people time out somewhat often.

The server is up 24/7 at:

75.126.14.176:27015

It is running my zombie mod, ive tested with a similar comp and got about 20x as much fps..

Someone figure out whats going on please Sad

to start with: turn HT off and monitor CPU load.

sorry, wrong info :O

Pentium D (Dual Core) 3Ghz is infact the processor, evething else the same.

BTW, is running in windows (Windows 2003 Server R2)

so that changes things now.. alot

that comp is 20x faster than mine :O.. yet my server speeds are 20x faster..

i remem something on CSS only reading 1 core and needs a patch or something to see 2 cores? is this true?

"windows is load balancing"

mean anything? O.o

and cpu load reads average at 30%

any more info needed? Sad HELP! Sad

Try going into the task manager and right clicking on your srcds.exe process. Click on set affinity and see what processors the server is running at. If it is on both, try running it off of one. If that doesn't help, try disabling the HT in your BIOS. I have read that HT can cause unneeded problems on the CPU with SRCDS. ( Don't quote me on that though).

btw.. some more details

problem only starts taking serious effect when over 8 clients connect, the server is run now at 30 peeps, (20 bots) when its at 28, no probs, 29 a lil, 30 is bad.. i know for the setup and connection we should be able to handle twice as much..

also when people connect to us they download content via the webserver however the webserver itself is simply forwarded to the game dir.. so in reality theyre downloading from the server still but at webserver speeds.. so i do notice it get bad at times when people connect.. and also at round starts a lil..

to better help, join at the ip listed above and play when its full.. to get a better understanding on wtf is going on..

Elis, why do you think they made the sv_downloadurl? Toungue

It's made to connect to a DIFFERENT server running HTTP to download from, not made to download the same content from the same server (This is already built into the SRCDS, simply don't use sv_downloadurl)

When ppl download from the server with maximum speed the gameserver will lag ofcourse.

would this lag in turn show in the console a crappy fps etc?, or is there another cause for the low fps?

run windows media player in the background of the server. dont play a file, but just open it. it works and brings up ur fps.

It's quite possible when 2 or 3 people download from the server the CPU gets higher (because of high data transfer rate) which will result into low FPS.

still no good Sad

im at a loss,

could it be the dual core not reacting properly with the source engine? could it be windows 2003 server not configured properly? could there be a problem in the server.cfg?

someone help.. its the problem of the year Sad
