Our LAN parties do not have an internet connection. We have the following issue.
If the server has sv_lan 1 set and the clients are in offline mode, the client will take around 5 minutes to connect or crash to windows.
If the server has sv_lan 1 set and the client is in online mode, the client connects in seconds just like an internet hosted server.
I have tried 50 some odd clients and different dedicated servers on different machines. Even had different people configuring the servers. All with the same results.
This has only been tested with Counter-Strike: Source.

It's something you'll have to live with, everyone has this, try keeping the clients in online mode.
There's no way to solve this (not that I know of anyways)

Thanks for replying so fast. I've been looking for a way around this for months. We have a LAN every three months or so. CS:S tournament every time, and no internet!

Well if you can try, if it's at someones home or I don't know where. Just try to get a small internet connection, it doesnt have to be fast, just so you can use steam in online mode. I know it's irritating, I do LAN's too but I always supply atleast a minor internet connection with it.

The building we rent for the LANs says that we cannot connect to their network. We have about 80 people at each LAN. To speed up CS:S tournaments we've had a Linux box only allow steam connection ports onto the internet. This works but is against our building contract.
Why don't more people complain to steam about this? There is nothing that I can find about this on here or steampowered.com.

There have been several posts about it but the point is that 90% of the people just play online, I don't know why the made it like this (just like loads of other stuff) but I don't think they will change it. There just aren't many LAN players and on top of that most LAN parties have a small internet connection to go in online mode.
