How Do You Stop Jira Labels From Becoming a Mess?
#1
Labels are really useful for filtering and organizing Jira issues, but once several teams start creating their own, things can get messy quickly. Do you enforce naming conventions and periodically clean up unused labels, or have you found another approach that keeps them consistent as projects grow?

Late to the party, but I couldn't resist adding a thought. In my experience, a simple naming convention works best if you keep it short and show examples right where people create labels. Also, schedule a quick monthly cleanup and make it a team habit. Does anyone else have a trick for catching messy labels before they pile up?

I have been using a flexible naming prefix per team, like "dev-", "mkt-", "ops-", and doing a monthly cleanup of labels with zero linked issues. For more structure, I personally check this article to see how others handle label hygiene and JQL queries. It helped me keep things consistent without overcomplicating the process.
