Renting a car in Kazakhstan
#1
Hey folks, planning a trip across Kazakhstan and trying to figure out the best way to get around. Is grabbing a rental a solid option or should I just stick to trains and local rides?

Trains are fine between the big cities but once you want to see anything off the main route like the mountains or the steppe you are stuck without your own wheels, which kind of kills the whole adventure vibe. The roads between Almaty and Astana are pretty decent these days and having your own ride lets you stop wherever you want for photos or food. For renting a car in Kazakhstan you can scope out what is available and check the deposit requirements here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/kazakhstan .

Get your international driving permit sorted before you fly out even if the rental site says a regular license is enough. Some local cops will still ask for it at checkpoints and it is not worth the hassle.
