Hi. I recently installed SRCDS on my small server at home to test out some maps locally. When I try to run it, the following happens.

jani@ghost:~/srcds_l$ screen -S srcds ./srcds_run -console -game cstrike -port 2
7015 +ip 192.168.1.5 +maxplayers 4 +map surf_rebel_resistance_final11 +exec serv
er.cfg -nobots -autoupdate -tickrate 66 -debug
[screen is terminating]
jani@ghost:~/srcds_l$ ./srcds_run -console -game cstrike -port 27015 +ip 192.168
.1.5 +maxplayers 4 +map surf_rebel_resistance_final11 +exec server.cfg -nobots -
autoupdate -tickrate 66 -debug

I ran the server again with the -debug parameter so that it would output the errorlog, which is here.

Seems to me you are using a cpu that does not have SSE support. SRCDS will not run unless your processor supports SSE.

Awfull lot of trouble to test a few maps, best is to just host a listen server if you're just going to test them.

You would need a new Processor to run the server and probably more RAM too.

What's wrong with my processor? I've run srcds on it fine before, but that was a couple of months ago before I switched over to Debian. It used to run Windows Server 2003 Enterprise.

Is there any version of srcds I can get which DOESN'T require SSE crap?

I'm afraid not, as far as I know there is no "non-SSE" version of SRCDS. I do know that it was implemented in a update so you might want to try and rollback to a previous version where it wan't built into it yet.

About your processor, it's just slow, but I didnt read that you only hosted for 4 players (didnt read the commandline params), that should work fine indeed.

If i recall your motherboard is a socket a. You can probably get an athlon Thunderbird in your motherboard, theres 1 here for $43
http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=216

Tell me you exact motherboard and i'll see if it fits.

Edit, actually im now remember that SSE wasn't introduced to the athlon until the XP series.

You can try this http://www.geocities.com/uart0/k7som.html

here is an athlon XP 1800 1.5Ghz

http://www.pcprogress.com/product.asp?m1=pw&pid=AMDXP1800%2BOEM

Its $40 but i think you might need a new board to support it.

Damn, looks like I can't do it at all on my server then. Once I upgrade my desktop in the next couple of months I'll put my Socket A motherboard and Athlon XP 2800+ in the server.

Thanks for the help.
