How Do You Enforce Out-of-State Judgments in Louisiana?
#1
I came across a helpful resource on BPP Law about collecting foreign judgments in Louisiana and wanted to get some feedback from others who’ve gone through this. What challenges did you face when trying to enforce an out-of-state judgment here?

Did the Louisiana Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act make things easier or more complicated for you? How long did the process take, and were there any unexpected delays or requirements? I’m especially curious about how the debtor is notified and what happens if they contest the filing. Any tips or lessons learned would be appreciated.

I’ve dealt with collecting out-of-state judgments in Louisiana, and it can definitely be complex. The Louisiana Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act helps, but you still need to follow specific procedures closely. In my case, the debtor contested the filing, which added delays. Notification and proper documentation were key challenges. It took a few months to finalize everything. For anyone going through this, I’d recommend checking out BPP Law’s article, it outlines the process clearly and helps avoid common pitfalls.
