Finishing Wax
#1
Hi All,
I make my own paste wax for turning. At this time I use 4 parts mineral oil to 1 part beeswax. I like this formula because there is no odor. It has a lack luster shine to it. I want to make it more of a shiny bright finish.
I use this formula because there are no chemicals and it is food safe.
My question is what do I do to make if more of a glossy finish? More wax? More mineral oil? I have made a friction polish using the standard BLO, Denatured Alcohol, and Shellac which was somewhat more of a gloss but not the deep glossy shine.
Any suggestions as to how to make a food safe high gloss wax?

Thanks in advance for the help

To get a higher gloss, try adding more beeswax to your mix for a thicker finish. You could also experiment with a bit of carnauba wax for a glossy shine while keeping it food-safe.

It sounds like you're on the right track with your wax formula. If you're after a shinier, glossier finish, adding a little more beeswax might do the trick. Beeswax adds a bit more “body” to the wax and gives it a slightly more polished look. You could also try tweaking the ratio of oil to wax—maybe go with 3 parts mineral oil to 1 part beeswax.
Another idea is to try buffing it out a little more with a soft cloth or a power buffer once it’s dried. The friction from the buffing helps bring out a deeper shine. If you're looking for that deep, glass-like gloss, you could add a small amount of carnauba this wax, which is known for its hard, glossy finish.
