Server not changing maps & Stand alone server

Hi, I have a couple of questions about running SRCDS.

1) I have 2 pc's and 1 copy of HL2. Can i run SRCDS on the pc i want to setup as the server without having to install Steam and HL2? I have tried it and it seems to work but it may have something to do with my next question.

2) I got my server running and can join it ok on the stand alone server. When the map time limit expires, the console goes into a loop trying to "CHANGE LEVEL" to the next level in the map cycle. I believe i have all the necessary maps in the map folder and my mapcycle.txt file setup correctly. Any ides?


Also anyone know of any good sites that have indepth documentation or tutorials on setting up SRCDS and how to use it? I have searched and searched and can only fine basic tutorials on how to setup.

First off you dont need a copy of HL2 to run a server. There is a great tutorial on how to do this, oh I dont know, you could try HERE for example. Just givin u a hard time. But yeah click tutorials on the top and read through the windows installation. After you have everything downloaded all you have to do is start your server and your problems will be fixed.

Well, I can't answer your #2, but I think I can help with #1.

Yes, you will have to download Steam, and depending on if you use the Source Dedicated Server (from steam), you will have to download that too.

Just download Steam, log into your Steam account, then download HL2 from there, and then run SRCDS. I'm not really sure if this works, but if it does, then yay

LOL, I have looked at the tutorials here and yes they have helped me setup the server, but i was just looking for something that had a lot more information as i seem to have too many problems in setting this thing up (Hence my #2 problem).

Thanks again. I didn't think i needed HL2 to run the server but i thought the problem i am having was to do with this.

Will STEAM allow me to run my account on 2 pc's at the same time? I want to be able to run my Server and my stand alone pc at the same time. At the moment, i have a full installation of HL2 on my Stand alone and SRCDS on the server.

Online it wont..

Just put a NON-STEAM dedicated server (SRCDS) on one pc and play the game on the other PC.
I strongly suggest NOT using the STEAM SRCDS, it sucks.
