Would you rather deal with 100 customers paying you $1 / month or 10 customers paying you $10 / month...

Time is money in this business and every hour you spend taking care of a client who pays you less than $10 / month is hours wasted you could be using to flip burgers or sell gasoline Smile

The more he says the more it sounds like it was pulled out of thick air, but the point made by @loopyman above should hit the nail on the head.

And here is part of the corner cutting:

These are the peers of the ASNs for his test servers.

The 2 peers use low quality, cheap bandwidth themselves for the most part.

The only peer is bad as it's a single point of failure, aka single-homed. At least in that peer something decent like Level3 is present.

Either way, both of his 2 networks contain Hurricane Electric and Cogent, which is corner cutting. Yes, Cogent is OK for a few things (use in BGP depending on location), but one of the graphs showed 20%!

Ive never had too much of a problem using HE as our primary carrier. It really depends on the facility and the location. I will say Cogent is by far the worst, but as a cheap backup carrier it comes in real handy.

However in Atlanta and LA we use Internaps bandwidth routed through their FCP... Oh now that is some lovely bandwidth... Costly as hell though. Especially with the rising sizes of DDoS attacks.
