Hmm... Sounds like I'm gonna have to start publicly offering it.

Also can we get an admin to split this topic.

Even Mumble offers more to the user without licence fees for the hoster it wont be that popular like the rest.
The reason is simple:
- people need simplicity cause most of them are to lazy or to stupid to configure
- They do not care what the hoster has to pay if another is offering for less they will go there (but with thousends of slots on one small server?!)

I do not know how it is in your counries but here in germany teamspeak 3 is prefered. Many clans/cummonities have a small vps or rootserver with the 512 NPO licence and are giving not needed slots away.
Because there are so many ts3 servers out there nobody really needs to buy one.

A few weeks ago a guy asked me if I could give him a few slots cause his clanadmin is going to change to mumble which he does not like.
So even if he has mumble for free he insist on teamspeak 3.

That's because they don't know better. Those people on Mumble realized how much better it was than their Ventrilo and absolutely better than ts3.

Though realchamp has a point I do think the voice server debate is all about personal preference. Hats off to Ventrilo (flagship) for the ads campaign they have done in the past and continue to do today for their product. I can not say I've seen any other VoIP solution do the same at that level. However the fact that a person can simply change his/her mind should they actually try or actually get to know about the software also plays a big part. Ventrilo is universal and 7 out of 10 teams use it while the other 3 out of 10 use Teamspeak, Mumble, Mohawkvoice. Should TS3 finally be out of Beta stages it has the capability of being the contender it used to once be, but it has to hurry up. Mumble is rising and mohawkvoice is soon to launch its Mac/Linux compatible software. There are also other voip software(s) up now such as shockvoice and voicechatter :p

I think verygames.net made their own VoIP too. Not sure of its name, but it has one feature I'm jelly over.
That is the tactical drawing system for games like CS:S. Smile

I've heard that TS3 is aiming to be out of beta by the end of this first quarter.

Ah yes, I loved that tactical drawing feature in Alien Swarm... Especially when you could get people to stop drawing Penis's and THE GAME. :/
