Bandwidth Usage
#1
Hi guys,

Just wanting to know how much a banwidth this CS:S Server takes:

100tick,
12 Slots.
1000fps
Map: Greatriver fix (24/7)
A few eventscript addons
Upload speed is: 1mbit

And the rates are:

sv_minrate 4000
sv_maxrate 9999
sv_minupdaterate 10
sv_maxupdaterate 45
sv_unlag 1
sv_maxunlag 0.750

All maps, Sounds etc. Are downloaded from a server offshore.

The server performs fine under these conditions I am just worried about the bandwidth, I have seen forum topics saying it wont use much but others say it uses quite alot.. More than 300gb which I think is bull dust to be honest.

So I just need around an estimate each month how many GB of B/W It takes, Under full load especially since my server is populated at most times.

Thanks guys

Wow seriously, with those rates, it would never be able to run those 100 ticks. Im having a 20 slots DM server with 1K fps and 100 tick which takes about 2.5 - 3.0 Mbps upload. 1 mbit will be fine for a 66 tick server

sv_minrate 5000
sv_maxrate 20000
sv_minupdaterate 30
sv_maxupdaterate 100

Should be your rates...

Your upload speed is close, go for 2mb if you can.
That server will pull between 800K and 1.2Mb
Looking for a game server? Visit fullfrag.com and pick one up as low as $2.50 / mo!

So it'll be 1.2mb per month for a 12slot 100tick server? Righto!

No it will be max 1.2 Mbps.

1200 kbps = 150 kb/s
150 kb/s * 60 * 60 *24 = 1.296 GB
1.296 GB * 30 (or 31) = 38.88 GB

This is just the max bandwidth usage, dont expect it to reach that much

NOTE, This is data transfer not bandwidth...

Bandwidth is total speed.
Transfer is amount transferred.

Also, Math Fail...
1.2Mb/sec = 72Mb/min = 4320Mb/hour = 4.32Gb/hour = 103.68Gb/day = 3110.4Gb/month
3110.4Gb/month = 388.8 GB/month Data Transferred on 1.2Mbps of Bandwidth

Please use a capital B for Bytes, and a lowercase b for bits.

Who is your dedicated server host? Most anywhere in Europe, or USA has atleast 1TB bandwidth transfer limits...

Unless you're in Aus, then you're screwed! ( Ask Goilio )

As loopyman says, theres a lot of providers in Europe that gives you a lot of transfer. The only country i know which charges much for traffic is here in Denmark (don't ask me why)

One good dedi host is Poundhost, pretty fair prices, and nice ping Big Grin

Any ways, I think danish BW is expensive because our infrastructure is to small. The only "large" isp we got in Denmark is TDC

It depends how much traffic your server gets. If it does not get much traffic, don't expect to use a massive amounts of bandwidth.
