Hi guys,
I'm thinking about picking up a new dedicated server. Anyone have any experience withe the Q9550? How did it perform with CSS?
Thanks

very good, my clan has 2 of them running :-) it still depends a bit on the chipset, the older one with a ICH7 runs better than the newer with the ICH9, but I doubt you will get a server with a ICH7 (I upgraded the cpu, was originally an E8200).

Really the old one runs better than the new one? Strange haha. How many servers are you managing to run with them?

the old chipset runs better, yes.

currently we don't run many servers, 3 css + 1 tv server on the one root and 4 cs1.6 on the other. but they can handle more, at least if we'd remove the bots :-)
it all depends on your quality demands. usually 2 servers per core are still very good.

The Q9550 is good for gamehosting, but a Core i5 could be an alternative Smile

Because the 3450's are the lynnfield i7's.

Big difference between the 3430's and the 3450's

I honestly preferred my X3460 over my E5520. Well, of course, higher clocks Smile and a better mobo. HP on the E5520, and Supermicro on the X3460

Back to the topic, As to Q9550s, I have had GREAT experience with them, decent stability with 1000FPS on windows 2k8.
