^^^^^ please note the 200 miles...there is no speedtest server in MN anymore... Sad

I'm currently looking at buying a server with:

AMD Athlon 2.8GHz Single-Core Processor
2 GB DDR2 RAM

Planning on running a WINDOWS server.

My Questions:

How many people connected to me (on tf2 servers) can my internet handle?

Is this processor sufficient for two 24 man servers without lag?

How many more past that, if any? (players)

What sort of upgrades should i be getting for the server processor if needed? (PLEASE SPECIFY THE EXACT GHz+Dual/Quad, links to newegg would be great!)

What are the minimum requirements for running two 24-man tf2 servers processor & internet wise?

I have 4 extra 2 gig sticks of DDR2 RAM, so RAM isn't an issue, how much should I put in this server?

Please include any information you think would help that I may have forgot to add a question about.

Thanks!

I would say your processor should be enough to handle atleast one server. As SCRDS is only Single core any ways, about the Internet, you got to wait for some one else Smile

One server of how many people? >.>

It can run a server for sure, I'm more concerned about how many people.

Are you saying I'd need more that a single core for more than 1 server?

THANK YOU for the quick response!

It's better than Linux and easier?

correction. windows sucks for hosting.
also a home internet connection + a 2mbps connection wont hold out for long, you'll never get the network quality that you get from a data-center that peers directly to major ISP hub's
a good idea would be to colocate a server in a datacenter near you, and to put in a Intel processor, i know it's cliche but it's just that much better IMHO.

Wow that's like all wrong Big Grin

I would say 1 20slot TF2 server at a push?

I'm not 100% on the upload/download per client on 66tick, or if that CPU will run it, what socket is the CPU? 939/AM2? Kinda gives us a better idea if it will run lol.

This THEAD is old people.

The biggest issue with hosting at home, on NOT fiber connections is the speed and ping.

Doesn't matter what you use, Windows are as good as Linux...
