CSS 100tic - maximum number of slots?
#1
What is the limit on a Counter Strike Source server
in terms of 100tic and maximum slots?

I run several dust2 servers with SourceMOD
on a dual Xeon dedicated box with plenty of bandwidth.
Is it reasonable to have a 36 slot server at 100tic ?
I have the srcdsfpsboot.exe running as a windows service.

This has probably been answered in another post.
I did search and found nothing yet.
I would be happy to follow a link to recent replies on this topic.

I'm not a CSS guy,but I think people generally cut off 100 Tic at 12 slots. After they they drop down to 66, but I could be wrong.

Actually, you only see that because scrims like 11 slots, meh.

You can go up to 18, but I've seen servers with 24, however the tickrate never holds at 100 when full.

Hardware specs? 36 slots with 100tick is a killer, but possible.

That hard drive is going to kill you. Those are meant for file transfers and storage - not constant I/O usage for OS files and game servers. I could be wrong, but yeah.

You probably want something like this:

8-20GB SSD for OS.
80GB for SRCDS servers.
1TB for storage and backup.

It would lower I/O usage and reduce choke in some areas.

Srcds engine limits up to 64 player slots for any srcds server regardless of its slot count and fps max.

I run all my servers at 64 slots, ( they never get past 32 ).

BUt yes, you can run a 32 slot 100 tick server just fine as long you have a dual or quad core processor and a couple gigs of ram.. And for hard drive, I never really had a problem running 7200 RPM HD's it generally just results in a slower map change and sometimes can choke up if people are downloading from the server.

But otherwise you should be fine.

We run 24 slots @ 100 tick and the tick usually holds above 90, this is on a dual quad box as well, Win 2k8.

With the current hardware supply on the market you should be able to hold 1x 20 slot @100tick.

Reviving an old thread with new information.
We built a new dedicated server
Dual AMD CPU: Two six core 2.6Ghz Opteron's for a total of 12 CPU cores
32Gig of registered server ram and a fast 10,000 rpm drive

We are running a total of sixteen dedicated servers
A bunch of 36 slot 100tic servers and one 40 slot 100tic with zero lag.

Great to hear, i would recommend you to change to linux instead. You can get a way much better server, on that OS (with a little bit tweaks ofc Smile )
