Is my server running properly?

Question

Hi there !

I'm new at this forum, i've come here to know how to set up a CSS server, and everything seems to be correct, but I don't really know how to connect to my server, and how do other people may connect to it.

Code:
soanos@soanos-desktop:~$ cd srcds_l
soanos@soanos-desktop:~/srcds_l$ ./srcds_run -console -game cstrike +map de_dust -maxplayers 8 -autoupdate +ip 192.168.1.36

Using SSE2 Optimised binary.
Server will auto-restart if there is a crash.

Connection to Steam servers successful.
   VAC secure mode is activated.

PC Specs.:
Intel pentium 4 @ 1.6GHz
512MB Ram ( i don't remember which type or frequency.. soz)
Ubuntu Hardy Heron
and other stuff that i don't think are to important, but if needed ask for it and i will search it ^^.

Its just a test server, i know that with that PC it's hard to get along with a "good" server.
Also i don't have a nice connection.. just 300Kbps up, with ADSL ( or DSL however you call it).

QUESTION: how should I connect to my server ( which is created in a other PC) ? connect externalIP:port ? and other people.. ?
Thanks!

Which ports did you forward? when forwarding these ports did you forward them correctly also setting up static ip on the box helps. If steam servers can't get a heartbeat from your server it won't be able to establish a connection. So something is blocking that connection. Some key's are dont run in DMZ and insure there is nothing on the box itself such as firewall and things also try to make sure the box is connected directly tot eh internet router.
*Windows lack of output*
You: Hey, I want to run this program!
Windows: Ok.. It crashed... Now what? Give up?
You:...wtf...
*linux output helpful?*
You: ./My_program
Linux:...Failed!...oo kitties!
You:...wtf...

Well I've been searching a bit.

I'm runing my server on a Ubuntu Hardy Heron,
my ufw ( firewall) is desactivated, and so it might not caus any problem.

Whan i type in the terminal: netstatus - tlp
and it shows the port 27015 as "LISTEN" --> It's that correct for runing he server?

and.. for the issue of conencting to my own server i tried:
connect externalIP:27015 isn't it ?

well hope someone can help..
if i find a solution i will post it.

Well, as far as ai can know, i reached to connect trought the LAN ip.. but the provlem is that i want other people to connect... i followed a "tutorial" is posted in this forum, of causes might not let other people conenct to the server but none of them have success.

and please, for other people to connect, they have to introduce:
connect MYexternalIP:27015 ???

and let me know i the ports are forwarded... please!

Ye, you will need to port forward things on your router. While you can be very specific, just do the following to make it easy.

Forward all ports 27000 to 27050 on TCP and UDP. That will make it work Smile
