steamservice.cpp (275) : Assertion Failed: Failed to start in-process Steam Service

Question
Hi

My english isn't good as well, but I hope you people can understand me.
I need help with my HldsTool which I updated 2 days ago.
I'm running a CS:S and a GarrysMod Dedicated Server under Windows Server 2008 x64.
Since the last hlds update the GarrysMod or any other OrangeBox server (like TeamFotress) doesn't work anymore.
But their working without any problems before.

Startup with:
„%HLServerDir%\orangebox\srcds.exe -console -game garrysmod +map gm_flatgrass +ip *** -port 27035 +maxplayers 16 -tickrate 100 +fps_max 1000 -exec server.cfg"

First issue after the update was the error „Couldn't allocate any hltv IP port“,
but I haven't set any hltv in my config at all. Only way I can fix it is to delete the IP startup-parameter.
Now the server will start and give me a second error saying:

„steamservice.cpp (275) : Assertion Failed: Failed to start in-process Steam Service“

First I thought it doesn't matter cause the server seems to running, but I can't connect to it.
Even if I reinstall the HldsUpdateTool and download a fresh OrangeBox with Garrysmod
with no addons and a default server.cfg I still have the same issue.
I hope someone has another idea.

Kind regards

raidmin

I had the steamservice.cpp (275) error as well. I fixed it by running the updater and, even though nothing was updated, it didn't show up again.

If you're having problems with HLTV, try putting "+tv_enable 0" in your start up code. My thinking is it might ignore any port settings for HLTV if it's disabled.

Add -nohltv or -tvdisable to your startup line Smile

I'm recieving the same error, i cant play on the server, and friends can play , and its visible in HLSW. But it just wont show up in the masterlist.

I am 100% its the error line you described that is responsible for that. Ive done everything , reinstalled , new server , vanilla configurations, connected direcly to internet without router, added all kind of -pamareters on start-up.

It is a steam error, and i hope they fix it , or handle out a parameter that can fix this issue, ive opened a ticket at steam forums. I will tell you what they say.. its really annyoing. My old Counterstrike 1.6 works just fine, its just with the orangebox this error occur.

I get the same thing with dod:s aswell,
steamservice.cpp (275) : Assertion Failed: Failed to start in-process Steam Service

Connects to steam server
vac secures
Loses connection to steam servers

I am also running 10 other servers on same box (cs source, insurgency, age of chivalry, team fortress 2, dod, dod stunt, dod gun game, dod war , cs, cs stunt)
Dod source is the only server that does this.

RUN DIR/orangebox/srcds.exe -console -game dod -port BLAH -maxplayers 32 +map BLAH +exec server.cfg

I am a little confused as to why only the dod source server does this.

Got an update, Just realised 2 of my other servers are doing same thing. DoDS TF2 And CS:S, my digital paintball is fine however along with all my hlds.

All connect to steam networrk
vac secures
loses connection after 1 min

Funny thing is after a map change it re connects to steam network and same process over and over.

Only difference is i can actually play on mine.
