couldnt allocate yet again..

Exclamation
ok so i install Vista prem. start up server with exactly same configuration that i had in XP. server is vieable by people. i shut it down and restart it and its not vieable anymore.

i get the dreaded "Couldnt allocate udp port" messege.

so i toy around with it. chk and rechk. and chk again that i forward to correct port. I mess around with router settings. DHCP/DMZ.
ipconfig-release-renew.
i add and remove -ip 192.168.0.2 from the command line i use -port 27015

i try all sorts of combos with this.

-ip/-port
-ip
-port

no -ip and no -port

so i give up. nothing works. i can only get lan access when i remove
-ip

i go out. come home, turn comp on. and server boots up and is viewable in by everyone. currently i only have -port 27015 with no -ip line

this server runs of same comp i use.

****update****

when ppl try to join my server i look at server console it says
"client dropped by server"

players get this messege
"Initializing renderer...
Disconnect: Client dropped by server."

This is why you don't run a server and play on the same computer! As Mooga once said: It's called a dedicated server because it should be dedicated for the server. Creating a server when in game is a Radio server, which means it runs within the game.

I have to agree with Beaver but heres what I can come up with...

The IP declaration is really only for when you have multiple IP addresses allocated. Then you can use +ip 255.255.255.255 -port 2701*. In your case this is not needed as srcds will default to your ip.

As for the dropping of connecting clients, this can be caused by a few factors. Make sure you have sv_lan set to 0. If it is visible to others you shouldn't have to worry about the port being blocked.

i understand.. but if its posible then why not...

and regarding sv_lan yes its set to 0. ppl can begin to join and see the server. but they jsut get dropped off. with the
"Initailizing render" messege.

and ideas what thi could be? a bad mod or seomthin?

Depending on what you have installed on the server, yes. I would suggest starting out with a clean server install to rule out all other causes.

Why not is the fact it wasn't designed to be run this way! If you are trying to run a game server and play on the same computer, you need to run a radio server. Simple as that. Anything else will give you problems, like what you are experiencing.

Reinstall the server and make sure you have steam and any other app that uses port 27015 shut down or change port to 27025

Yes, I was tired Toungue

People can connect to a listen server and play like normal. The quality will be better than running an SRCDS server on the same computer, because listen servers were meant to run on the same server. However, you can only run a listen server if you are in the server.
