Hi im 'trying' to use ur kernel on my CentOS-5 Server but i got a deep problem i build ur kernel it worked very well. but then, when i trying to activate it on the system. i used your command mkinitramfs. but that command don't exist in CentOS-5, what will i do to activate/install it or something else that does the same thing ?. i have also tried to install initramfs-tools. but that packeage dont exist. Well that's my problem, please help me Smile

I got this hardware on the server
Intel Core 2 Quad ~3.0GhZ
4 Gigabyte ram DDR2 ~900MhZ
Motherboard Gigabyte p320-????(something, it's like 6 month old)
10 Gigabyte Raptor Harddrive

you can always also try to make everything needed during boot built static into the kernel (i.e. with an X instead of an M in menuconfig). this is especially important for disk drivers. have a look at the output of lspci to see what hardware is in your box.

lspci -v provides a better view, also the command for centos on the make build is make bzImage modules modules_install install

FPS > 1000 is not possible solely with the "right" kernel config and server settings. You need to hack system functions.
The question is, if you gain anything by this. Remember, the important thing is the time it takes per frame. At 1000 fps, this time is 1 ms. At best, you can eliminate that millisecond, but that would meen infinite fps (which is impossible for obvious reasons, srcds is not only waiting but calculating :-D). So you take huge efford to partially eliminate one single millisecond. The effect will naturally be smaller than getting from 500 fps to 1000 fps (which also means eliminating one millisecond). Most people already cannot tell the difference between (stable) 500 fps and (stable) 1000 fps.

Also I would expect stange thinks when running with > 1000 fps, like an accelerated game play.

Try getting 1000 fps more stable instead of doing those ridiculous things. Relativly small fluctuations seem to have a much greater impact. And if you are already modifying system calls, you might try to fix some flaws in srcds (and hlds), which are really a beginners mistakes if we speek about realtime applications (apparently, valve does not see srcds/hlds as a realtime application, but it is one)....
