Strange port issue
#1
Hey all,

I have set up a new dedicated server running on a linux box in a closet. Smile
However, a bit strangely, it appears as though an issue has popped up that I haven't seen before.
I have had experience with both hosting my own server, and renting externally, and have never seen this.

When I search for the game server at game-monitor.com, it comes up. It shows IP:27015. Great.
However, it shows up twice! The second time, it shows IP:62889.

It all looks the same... except the port #. What the heck is that second entry all about? Does it have something to do with external logging/rcon/I don't even know? I have never seen a server pop up twice like this, or use a high-level 60000 port.

Help!

Hi!

Have you tried to connect to the gameserver running on port 62889 is it the same?
I don't think it has anything to do with rcon or external logging, rcon runs on a different port. Have you tried to see if it could be sourcetv, sometimes strange things happen.
Else try to restart your box, to end the second server.

I have tried to connect to it and was not successful.

Oddly enough, yesterday it did the same thing, only the duplicate was on port 61035. Rebooted, and now it appears on 62889 as stated above.

Not sure how Source TV works or how to check on that.

Wanna see what I mean? Go to game-monitor.com and search for 75.38.187.88.

do you have a nat firewall between server and internet? srcds seems to peek holes into nat firewalls to allow connections from outside without the need for a port forwarding. of course this will be then some arbitrary port number. if you additionally setup a port forwarding your server might have two ports ;-)

yeah, it's one of three machines behind the thing using its own 192 address... perhaps that's it.. it's poking a hole upnp style... but since I can't connect to it, that doesn't seem accurate either.. who knows ... Toungue

maybe your port-forwarding disturbs it somehow...
I once was playing around with some test-server at home and I did not set sv_lan 1, because I was behind a firewall - so I thought. Suddenly a few people connected, I was quite suprised ;-)
I dont think it is upnp, because I had it disabled those days. It just opens a connection to some valve server, so the nat has to open a client port. that client port is then "abused" as a server port... upnp would allow to open a specific port and you would not get this ugly number ^^
