Intel Atom

The Atom's performance is pathetic, but it is expected for such a low power cpu. In a server environment they would be only useful for backups or dns.

True, I wasent saying they are quick, just that they should run an SRCDS

Atoms are shit for Game Servers... They bench about the same as higher end P3's or lower end P4's

And you probably could run a 12 slot 66 tickrate on an atom.

i just tryed ubuntu server and a source server on my intel pinetrail d510 processor. couldnt feel any lag but i was alone on the server.

ran it with 100 tick and 1000fps stable. cpu usage was 10%

i will try to get some people on the server so i can try it out more.

CPU usage of 10% with one player is horrible Toungue

Way to bring back a 5 month old thread guys....

Atoms are the perfect lightweight webserver, and if you play your cards right, you might be able to run ONE L4D server on it. You would be better off saving the money and buying a cheapo Pentium 4 + mobo and some spare parts. and throw up a server with that. Don't expect any extreme 33 slot tf2 1000 FPS. but you could easily deal with 18 or so players (Tf2) no problem.

Thats a really cruel idea. Hell, why not use a pentium 3?

Have you used an old P3? The Atoms are actually much faster. I used my P3 laptop until about a year ago. P3s are great for saving power, but they are very very slow for anything modern.

Please do not PM me for server related help

The CPU-usage mostly depends on what there is happening on the server

Really? I didn't know that...

You would think that it would scale linear, but you will run into more problems.

Yeah, I am familiar. I used/still use P3's. They are slow as ever but are good for a home NAS server or things of that nature. I was saying that you might as well use a P3 rather than an Atom for the price and money you save on power if your just going to be a douche and run 12 L4D servers off of it. Toungue
