My company is deciding whether or not to get another box is dallas and if we do we are looking into a linux os for our quad core server. I know a little bit about linux and were looking for something that is sem user friendly and will be stable. Were bouncing around the ideas of these 1000FPS private servers but not sure if we will.
Discuss your opinions on the different OS 64 bit editions. Pros/Cons what to expect with switching from Windows to Linux performance wise. etc.

i prefer ubuntu it has a great community for all your questions and it easy to get into. Also ubuntu has been known to get 1000 fps with no alterations at all. I never had any problems with ubuntu

i've not had any issues with fedora 64bit quad core either

4 cpus should be supported by any (modern) linux...
I always recommend ubuntu for less-experienced desktop users and debian for servers. For the experienced users I would recommend gentoo, but experienced users are usually not asking ;-)

I have been using CentOS for my linux servers, and its not really that complicated (to me) and not really easy.

ya i ran gentoo in a sandbox. wow purely CLI and im used to CLI because of cisco routers but this is beyond what I can learn quick enough. Ill look into CentOS thank you for your input everyone

I'm going to recommend Debian. I've been using Debian for a while and the new Debian Lenny (5.0) is fantastic. Can have a TF2 server up and running in under 30 minutes.
