running a dedicated server off of a domain name

Hello, i am a new member, so here is my "hello" for you all, so... hello...

anyway, i was wondering if there was any way possible to run a server off of an apache domain name. Like if i upload the files to my domain or something like that. If there is any way to do it i would love to kno. thanks, Cameron.

If you're talking about a webhost. No, its very doubtful seeing how you have no access to the servers cmd.exe if its windows. and more than likely the host won't allow it. Worth talking to them if they say ok. then go for it. But don't get your hopes up. If they're anything professional, they'll say no.

Get a dedicated server. colocate a server. run a server from your house.. Talk to a GSP.

how about re-routing the files through an IP address? would that work?

you know how people connect to a server because of an IP right?

well, what if you re rooted the files from your computer into a domain name, and backed all the files on my IP address? Then they would be able to go to it just like being able to visit a website.
